The ¾Ã²ÝÈȾòÝÊÓƵ of Missouri prioritizes the hiring of U.S. citizens and permanent residents. As an academic and research institution, we use H-1B visas in a limited capacity to hire individuals with highly specialized expertise in research, teaching and clinical care for a specified period of time.

Eligibility Standards for H-1B

The following standards determine whether the ¾Ã²ÝÈȾòÝÊÓƵ will sponsor H-1B petitions. Rare exceptions to this policy can be made only with the written approval of the chancellor or president.

  • Tenured faculty must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents or seeking permanent residence status.
  • Tenure-track faculty will be eligible for H-1B visa sponsorship with the expectation that they will seek permanent residence status before tenure will be granted.
  • Ranked non-tenure-track faculty:
    • Ranked non-tenure-track clinical faculty in certain health professions may be sponsored for H-1B visas.
    • Other non-tenure-track faculty will not be sponsored for H-1B visas.
  • Unranked academic staff will not be sponsored for H-1B visas.
  • Post-doctoral scholars will not be sponsored for H-1B visas.
  • Administrative, service and support staff will not be sponsored for H-1B visas.
